The staff and teachers at Redwood Shores Elementary School are dedicated to fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment. To enhance our academic programming and to attend to the social-emotional well being of all students, we use Positive Behavioral Intervention Systems and Supports (PBIS). PBIS is a systems approach to building strong relationships among all members of the school community, with a focus on clear expectations, prevention of unwanted behaviors, and the use of data for instructional planning and student support.
Redwood Shores Elementary's Core Values:
Be Safe
Be Responsible
Be Respectful
At RSES, we implement Restorative Justice practices when students engage in misconduct. Our focus is on helping those who have engaged in misconduct understand that their actions have harmed someone in our community. Not only have they caused harm, but they also have a responsibility to repair it. This process involves bringing together the person who was harmed and the person who caused the harm for a conversation. During this discussion, the harmed individual shares how they have been affected. They then express how they would like the harm to be repaired. The person who caused the harm is asked if they are willing to follow through with the requested actions to repair the damage. If they agree, they are required to carry out these actions. If they are unable to agree, further disciplinary action will be taken by the administration. By fostering a school culture that emphasizes repairing harm, we strengthen our community and help students who have engaged in misconduct develop greater empathy. This focus on empathy not only aids in personal growth but also helps prevent future incidents of misconduct.
SEAL bucks are awarded to students who meet our school values and expectations. Students may enter their Seal Buck for a weekly drawing. Weekly drawing winners gain recognition at our Friday morning meeting and a small prize
