The school enrollment process begins in January, when parents or guardians begin to register new students to start attending our district in August.

Kindergarten Entry Age

Children must turn five on or before September 1 of the year they enter kindergarten.

Transitional Kindergarten

Transitional Kindergarten, or "TK", is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate.

Transitional Kindergarten is part of the public school system and is free to participating students. Registration in the TK program is optional. TK is not offered at all school sites, so students who enroll in TK often go to a site other than their assigned school. Many students then change schools and return to their school of assignment for Kindergarten.

Transitional Kindergarten is taught by a credentialed teacher and is intended to give young learners a head start and provide them with an opportunity to learn and grow in an environment that is tailored to meet their academic and social needs. The teacher will help children develop social and communication skills through activities that build confidence while supporting the traditional kindergarten curriculum of math, literacy, and language development taught in interactive ways.

TK ENROLLMENT PROCESS

The enrollment process for the TK Program is the same process as kindergarten. Parents should enroll their child at the District Office. For more information, please see the BRSSD website.
