PTA President's Message
Greetings Seals Families! My name is Jen Vitug and I am filled with gratitude and honor to be serving as your PTA President for the 2019-2020 school year. Along with our new Executive Board, we look forward to serving the Redwood Shores Elementary School community during its very exciting 10 Year Anniversary.
First and foremost, we hope to encourage and foster a strong Seals community. This year we hope to make volunteering less demanding on families by encouraging the “Do One Thing Campaign.” Many hands make light work and decreases volunteer burnout. If every family did one thing, we could obtain our goal of 100% participation and be a much stronger community.
We also hope to increase active PTA memberships as we provide community building events as well as on-going support for our school. Here are a few reasons to join the PTA (membership will be part of the registration process coming in early August).
- The purpose of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) organization is to support every child by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
- With a child enrolled at Redwood Shores Elementary, you are already their advocate and a welcome member of our community. Families join the PTA to support each other.
- Joining the PTA supports your child, your child's teacher, your child's learning environment and our school and surrounding community.
- Being a PTA member gives you voting rights at PTA General Association Meetings – so you can influence how contribution dollars are spent.
- Joining a local PTA means joining the National PTA Organization.
- A portion of your local dues goes toward Council PTA, District PTA, California State PTA and National PTA. All levels of PTA provide training materials, workshops, support, newsletters, legislative representation and advocacy, and community programs.
- Fellow parents and teachers at RSES appreciate PTA members!
During the registration process in August (and through October), you can give to the Generosity Campaign. Without your generosity of kind and in-kind donations, the PTA cannot provide the amazing programs, events and resources that it does. For example, this year, we want to provide Movie Nights for free for PTA members. (Family membership for the PTA is $18 per year.) The PTA will continue to host other events such as Multicultural Night and the Family Dinner Dance, as well as support for field trips, teacher mini-grants and technology, to name just a few.
Last but not least, without your spirit of volunteerism, we simply can’t make any of these experiences happen. These amazing accomplishments would never happen without all of YOU!
All of us on the Board work tirelessly throughout the summer to help families stay informed of school events and important information and also to ensure that we start off the new year running. If you want to learn about more ways to help, or have any questions, concerns, or simply ideas to share, always feel free to reach out to me.
Whether you’ve never been a PTA member or are a committed PTA parent, let this be the year you join me, the Board, and the entire Seals Community as we embark on a quest to ensure Redwood Shores Elementary reaches its greatest potential. It truly takes a village and I am so proud to be a part of this community. Let us all share in this Seals Pride TOGETHER!
